Key Features

Engineered for Performance

Engineered by LED video wall experts, Leyard DirectLight X’s design addresses the challenges and unique benefits of fine pitch LED. The architecture uniquely addresses mounting, alignment, space constraints, reliability, fault-tolerance, fast service, power efficiency, scalability and long life – resulting in superior visual performance and value to customers. A 16:9 aspect ratio and precise pixel pitches ensure every model achieves exact Full HD, 4K or 8K resolutions.

Advanced Video Wall Processing
with Integrated Synchronization

Leyard DirectLight X takes built-in video wall processing to a new level with the off-board Leyard® Video Controller (VC), providing source processing, windowing, control and monitoring of the video wall. The 1U Leyard Video Controller (VC) delivering up to (9) 1920×1080 outputs from a single 1U Controller.

The Leyard Video Controller uses Planar® Big Picture Plus™ Video Wall Processing to deliver more extensive on-display and off-board video wall processing, and scale sources across the entire video wall or any section of the video wall, including multiple 4K @ 60Hz signals. Using built-in scaling, users can combine content from a higher number of independent sources, superimpose a smaller image over a larger one with Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and incorporate up to four unique image sources within a single display. The Leyard DirectLight X LED video wall system supports the latest 4K connectivity standards, including both HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, offering customers flexibility when building their video infrastructure.

With the Video Controller, Leyard DirectLight X also incorporates Leyard® WallSync™, providing precise

Simplifying Operation and Management

For simplified operation and management, Leyard DirectLight X includes Leyard® WallDirector™ Software, a powerful, web-based user interface that simplifies video wall set-up, configuration, operation and monitoring.

Efficient and Reliable Remote Power
The Leyard DirectLight X video wall system includes the Leyard® Remote Power Supply (RPS) that takes heat, depth, noise, weight, service points and electrical outlets away from the video wall and into a convenient, well-ventilated rack room. Featuring n+1 redundant, hot swap power modules, the Leyard RPS is available with 110V and 220V power and features a low power standby mode for video walls not operating 24×7 and offers features for control and monitoring.

Leyard DirectLight X delivers advanced power efficiency through Leyard® DriveSense™, a proprietary driver, controller and LED module design. Leyard DriveSense helps to extend the life of the product by providing highly uniform color and brightness while reducing heat emission, climate control requirements and power consumption.

Precision Alignment, Easy Front Service and Flexible Installation

The Leyard DirectLight X LED video wall system achieves less than 4” profile depth with the Leyard® EasyAlign™ Mounting System, making it exceedingly thin and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Added Protection with Enhanced Visual Appearance

Leyard® ERO-LED™ is a proprietary protective coating applied exclusively to best-in-class Leyard® LED display products to deliver protection and durability in high-traffic environments at a reasonable cost. Unlocking new applications for fine pitch LED displays, Leyard ERO-LED enhances the visual performance of an LED video wall with significantly increased contrast in ambient light and improved off-axis performance

FAQ

Direct View LED displays eliminate the LCD panel, instead using a surface array of LEDs as the actual display pixels. This allows for incredible contrast, vibrant colors, and brightness levels several times that of LCDs.

Pixel pitch describes the density of the pixels (LED clusters) on an LED Display and correlates with resolution. Sometimes referred to as pitch or dot pitch, the pixel pitch is the distance in millimeters from the center of a pixel to the center of the adjacent pixel. Since pixel pitch indicates the amount of space between two pixels, a smaller pixel pitch means there is less empty space between pixels. This equates to higher pixel density and improved screen resolution.

  • Pixel pitch refers to the density of pixels
  • A smaller pixel pitch indicates higher pixel density and higher resolution
  • Pixel pitch is important because it influences viewing distance
  • The smaller the pixel pitch, the closer the viewing distance
  • The optimal viewing distance of your screen informs the pixel pitch value

From our partners at Planar

Smaller pixel pitch universally provides greater resolution, but is more expensive. Materials and production costs are higher for smaller pixel pitch since more LED clusters are required to create a higher pixel density.

Consumers can get the best value for their LED screen by determining the optimal viewing distance of their screen. The optimal viewing distance is the point where image fidelity is retained, but if the observer moved much closer, the image quality would decrease or the screen would appear pixelated.

For example, a display with interactive touch solutions will need a low pixel pitch to produce crisp images for the nearby audience. On the other hand, an LED screen displayed above viewers, like one hung in an arena, could get away with a higher pixel pitch. The short answer is that a smaller pixel pitch will always give you better quality image, but the investment will not be fully appreciated if the screen is not seen from a sufficiently close enough distance.

There are three methodologies used in the industry to determine acceptable viewing distance:

  • 10x Rule - this is a shorthand method for calculating an approximate estimate of the Visual Acuity Distance.
The calculation is: Pixel Pitch x 10 = Approximate Viewing Distance in Feet
  • Visual Acuity Distance – also known as retina distance, this is a formulated calculation of the distance a person with 20/20 vision must move away from an LED screen to see a coherent image that is not pixelated.
The calculation is: Pixel Pitch x 3438 = Visual Acuity in Millimeters.
  • The Average Comfortable Viewing Distance – this is an estimate of what would be a comfortable viewing distance for most people. This is a subjective estimate and will take into account variables like a person’s eye sight, resolution of content and type of content.
